2. Purpose: The purpose of the International Organ Competition Musashino-Tokyo is to discover talented organists not only within Japan but also from abroad, to contribute to their development, and to promote international exchange.

Finals <Venue: Musashino Civic Cultural Hall >: The Finals for this competition will consist of recitals by the finalists of their own selections. The selection, however, must include a minimum of one piece by Messiaen of the finalist’s choosing. The time allotted for each contestant is between forty (40) and fifty (50) minutes, without breaks; including entrances, exits, and time between pieces. • Please Note: 1) That you must write the composer's name, selection title (in the original language), and time required for each piece in the indicated space.
2) That no modification in program selection is allowed once your application is submitted.
3) That selections from among the required repertory of the auditions or preliminaries are not to be used in the finals.
17. Age Limit for Applicants There is no age limit for applicants.
18. How to Apply: 1) Send the following required documents by registered mail: (a) Application form (b) Two (2) recent photos (7 cm by 10 cm, above the waist, directly facing camera)
(c) One (1) letter of recommendation from a third-party organ instructor or specialist.

2) All applicants of the competition must pay 15,000 yen as participation fee via bank transfer to the bank designated below by Friday, November 30, 2007. Service charges for bank transfers and other related fees involved when paying from outside of Japan are the responsibility of the individual. 19. Auditions
Those who wish to apply must attend an audition at one of the venues indicated in “10. Venues and Instruments to be Used” above. Please note that applicants cannot request a change in venue once application is made. Traveling and lodging expenses incurred are the responsibility of the applicant. The date and time of the audition will be decided following the screening of applications and the applicant will be informed of audition details by January 31, 2008. The results of the audition will be sent out by mail on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 (inquiries by telephone or e-mail will not be answered). Auditionees who are accepted for the first-round preliminaries will be sent certificates and other related documents to validate their participation in the competition.
20. Procurement of Visa Application and procurement of visa is the responsibility of the individual contestant in the event that one is necessary for the auditionee or contestant to enter Japan. Please contact the secretariat if guarantor documents are required for visa application.
21. Travel Expenses Travel expenses will be reimbursed under the following conditions: • For Overseas Residents: Round trip economy-fare air tickets between Japan and international airport designated by the competition will be provided for contestants residing overseas. Travel expenses to and from the designated airport, as well as travel expenses within Japan, are the responsibility of the individual.
• For Residents of Japan: Travel expenses for those residing in Japan are the responsibility of the individual. However, in the case of residents of distant regions, travel expenses will be reimbursed in part by the competition sponsors.
22. Lodging Expenses Lodging expenses (meals not included) for the duration of the competition will be provided for those contestants requiring accommodations, from the evening of Monday, September 15 as follows: First-round contestants: until the morning of Sunday, September 21 Second-round contestants: until the morning of Thursday, September 25 Finalists: until the morning of Sunday, September 28 Awardees: until the morning of Tuesday, September 29 Grand Prix winner: until the morning of Wednesday, October 1 Accommodations will be provided at the hotel designated by the competition sponsors. The sponsors will also provide intermediary services for "home-stay" (staying at private residences; free of charge) throughout the period of the competition.
23. Orientation The contestants must attend the following orientation. Time: 3:00 PM, Tuesday, September 16, 2008 Place: Musashino Civic Cultural Hall (Recital Hall) A reception will be held following the orientation, courtesy of the Mayor of Musashino.
24. Order of Performances For the preliminaries as well as finals, both the order of performances and rehearsal times will be decided by drawing lots at the times indicated below: Preliminaries (first round): at time of orientation Preliminaries (second round): immediately following announcement of second round contestants Finals: immediately following announcement of finalists Contestants in both the preliminaries and the finals must be present by their designated time of performance. In the event of tardiness, performance will be allowed only if the competition committee deems that it would not interfere with the overall program.
25. Rehearsals Each contestant is provided with rehearsal time at the respective venues. In addition, there will be other organs available for use outside the competition venue. Any contestant who desires to make use of these please state as such on your application form.
26. Registrants Registrants are to be provided by the contestant, in the event that one is deemed necessary. If you require a registrant but find it impossible to provide one, please state so on your application form, and the competition office will make arrangements.
27. Judging Judging will be conducted according to judging standards set by the jury. No objections may be raised against the decisions of the jury.
28. Performance Rights The following rights attendant to appearance in the competition are reserved by the competition sponsorship, and no contestant may raise objection to or demand payment in relation to their use: 1) Radio or televised broadcasting or dissemination via internet 2) Recording or filming whether or not for broadcasting purposes 3) Recording for the purposes of producing cassette tapes or compact disks, or the duplication and/or sale thereof
4) Taking of photographs and/or videos and the duplication thereof, as well as their distribution and/or sale
29. Awards and Prizes First Place: Award certificate and 1.2 million yen in prize money Second Place: Award certificate and 800,000 yen in prize money Third Place: Award certificate and 600,000 yen in prize money Other finalists: Award certificate Award for Best Performance of Messiaen Selection (Messiaen Award): Award certificate and 300,000 yen in prize money
Yoshida Minoru Memorial Award (awarded to first place winner): Award certificate and 300,000 yen in prize money
Audience Award (awarded to finalist selected by audience vote): Award certificate, souvenir
Taxes will be deducted from the above-mentioned prize money in accordance with Japanese tax law.
30. Prizewinners Concert Those who have been awarded First Prize, Second Prize, Third Prize, the Messiaen Award, and the Audience Award, must perform in the Prizewinners Concert to be held on Sunday, September 28, 2008 at Musashino Civic Cultural Hall. Please note that performance fees are not to be paid.
31. Accompanying Awards 1) A CD of the Winner of First Prize will be released worldwide by Naxos Rights International Ltd. The recording will be also made available online for streaming on Naxos.com and Naxos Music Library, and downloading on Classicsonline.com. The recording sessions are scheduled for September 29 and 30, 2008 at Musashino Civic Cultural Hall.
2) The First Prize awardee will be provided the opportunity to perform on tour within Japan at the invitation of Musashino Cultural Foundation in fiscal year 2010.
3) As the Toyota Mayor’s Award, the opportunity to perform at the Toyota City Concert Hall will be provided in conjunction with the tour mention in 2) above.
4) As the Tokorozawa MUSE Award, the winner will be provided the opportunity to perform at Tokorozawa Civic Cultural Centre MUSE.
32. Addendum Any issues arising in regard to the above articles are to be resolved in accordance with the meaning intended in the original Japanese language and according to Japanese law.
